Printed circular letter (4 pp. in 4°) requesting lettered gentlemen to convey folk tales and folk ballads, to inquire for these particularly amongst the “countryfolk and other lower classes” with whom they converse, and to seek out the collaboration of their female relatives “since women usually guard more undisturbed memories of their early impressions, and female servants will be more prepared to declaim their songs to them”.
